Modern Day "Hippies" ( My project title)
Classic rock has always been a huge part of my life. It puts me in some sort of a trance that I do not come out of for a long while, well as long as the music is going that is. I love everything about it, mostly the root meaning of some of the songs or the people it attracted and the time frame from which it came. In the late 60's there was a huge festival of a bunch of peaceful Americans. It is the most remembered concert/festival of past American music. That festival was called "Woodstock," and it attracted thousands of people from all over the U.S. The most popular and well known group that it attracted was the "Hippies." They were basically a subculture of rebels, and they were very strong willed about what they believed was right. The "Vietnam" war was one of the most violent battles that America has ever fought and it turned the U.S inside out. People were outraged and full of violence. These rebels were against the war though, and they believed that everyone should come together and live as one in the world that we all have to survive in and help each other. The "Hippies" really kept strong to their protest against violence. They stood together against authority, and never backed down. These individuals were people that the older generations despised at that time. In my project I will explain all the events of the past with the "Hippies," and compare them to modern day people similar to them. I will be doing live interviews on some people that are actually "hippies." One of them being my friend David Desroche. The interviews will be full of opinions and what they think about life in their terms. I will also be recording live footage of different parties that they are at and at festivals such as "Schwagstock." The footage may be offending at some points of the project because things can happen and people can say stuff that others strongly disagree about. My project will also show what they do on their spare time when they are sitting around and their favorite foods or activities to do. There will be photos of the people I am interviewing and having in my videos. One of my friends will be showing us how to do cool designs on ty-dye shirts and just some of the things that they make. I will be going into the essay explaining the past and working my way up through the events of the past and eventually getting to the present, which will contain the interviews and photo and video footage.

baker four-twenty,
ReplyDeleteo1. do you think it will be difficult to find people who actually admit to being "hippies"?
o2. will you interview any old, original hippies?
o3. war - what is it good for?
o4. would you consider the deadhead community an extension of the hippie subculture?
I can't read half of your blog! Black text on a black background don't work. :( The maroon color of the titles and headers also doesn't work well. You stuck close to the background colors which is good but try to switch up the color scheme more, and make it legible.
ReplyDeleteWhat do Hippies represent in this day and age when every one is apart of the counter-culture, minus the drugs? What happened to the most influential hippies of the 60's and 70's? What types of things are people going to be offended by and how are you going to try to make it more acceptable?
NOTHING PERSONAL, but if even one other person in this room thinks like me... HIPPIES ARE DEAD.. OR 60 YEARS OLD NOW.. modern day hippies, they are just "wanna be's" I am going to want you to make me realize that there are some true to heart hippies that exist in our generation. I just consider hippies to be creatures that died off in the past. man. what do you consider as a modern day hippie? Schwagstock is a huge drug flea market, not really a place for hippies. more like real thugs, wanna be thugs, and wanna be hippies. It's not about the music. But let me know if i can throw down on anything when you go... JUST KIDDING MR. BLAGOJEVICH!
ReplyDeleteCan you stay un-biased on this subject? It seems like it may be difficult to stay un-biased. What offensive beliefs do they have? Why are they offensive?
ReplyDeleteWhat exactly is the definition f being a hippie? Being stoned and wearing terrible clothes?
